State Youth Games is a national Christian sporting competition organised by Churches of Christ Youth Vision. The WA event is being held this year in Bunbury from Friday 29 May – Monday 1 June.
A team has competed under the banner of Uniting Youth since 2007, and offers the chance for young people aged 16 to 30 to get meet other Uniting Church young people from around WA.
Craig Trethowen, event organiser, says this year’s event is not one to miss. “It will be a fun event with loads of exciting games and opportunities to meet other young Christians from all over the state.”
He was also keen to point out that you don’t have to be a superstar to get involved. New games for this year’s event include Mastermind and Kubb, a game originating in Swedan which is described as being ‘a combination of bowling and horseshoes’.

Make Poverty History is calling on 100 young people aged 16 to 26 to get on board for their national road trip from 8–15 May 2010. The road trip aims to draw attention to the Millenium Development Goals and Australia’s commitment to donate 0.7 percent of gross national income to overseas aid. The road trip is leaving from all capital cities and will meet up in Canberra.
Jody Lightfoot is one of the people co-ordinating the WA contingent.
“For the Western Australian crew, we’re going to be campaigning in Perth for two days, then we’re going to be flying to Sydney and campaigning for two days in the heart of Sydney,” he explained.
“Then we’ll be driving to Canberra for a massive summit festival and a training conference.”
Jody said that while the publicity raised by the road trip campaign and various media events vital to raising awareness of the issues of global poverty, the training conference will mean all those involved will go home equipped to share the message back home.
“We’re creating a movement of people who are willing to stand up against the injustice of poverty.”
Rev Alistair Macrae, president of the Uniting Church in Australia, has written to congregations along the way …
In churches around WA each week, at church, kids’ clubs, youth groups and even over morning tea, children learn about God and Jesus through the ministry of ordinary people who are passionate about passing on their faith to the next generation.

Adrian (Age) Greenwood is the founder of MorePraxis, an online community aimed at supporting young adults who “long for a more interconnected Christian spirituality.” As the name suggests, the site is focused on an action/reflection model, where the personal is political and so is the spiritual.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, the Dalai Lama offered a gentle reminder that actions are needed, not more words, if we want to make the world a more peaceful, happier place.
About FACE 2010 is a Faith And Cultural Exchange for young adults between 18 and 30 years, to take place from 26 June to 17 July, 2010. Participants will elect to spend two weeks in a placement with either an Aboriginal community in Australia, or with one of the Uniting Church’s partners in the Asia-Pacific region. The About FACE program is an exciting and strategic opportunity for young adults to participate in the reconciliation and covenanting process with Aboriginal communities in Australia, and to share in solidarity with partner churches in the region.
Adrian Greenwood will now be visiting 17-20 June for a MorePraxis weekend and will not be at Summer Spirit. More details to follow shortly. First Third MinistryTeam

Intolerance affects us all at some point in our lives — some more than others. So what do we do when someone else is being intolerant? Should we speak up or let it slide?
Meghan Plowman, a young Christian from Perth, found herself speaking up on the rights of women because the issue hit a nerve.
