Two Weeks to Go! Moderator Launches Pancake Day 2010

Throughout February 2010, businesses, schools and community groups will be cooking delicious pancakes all over Western Australia to help support local people doing it tough in our community. While most Pancake Day events happen on Shrove Tuesday — 16 February — groups will be cooking and eating pancakes throughout February. With two weeks to go, the Moderator of the Uniting Church, Rev Ken Williams, joined students of Wesley College at the launch of the event.

Easy breezy year ahead for GSI

Workers at the Good Samaritan Industries (GSI) Canning Vale factory can look forward to cool changes, when their roof is upgraded and air conditioning installed. The capital works project received a major boost last week when GSI received a cheque for almost $1.6 million from Lotterywest.

Today’s gospel reading continues directly from where last week’s gospel reading ended, so I’m going to begin by saying again some things that I said last week at Scarborough. We are now in the second half of what the church knows as ‘ordinary time’ in the season after Epiphany. This is a time of year, between Christmas and Lent, when the church encourages us to reflect upon our scripture readings with the theme of Epiphany in mind.
